Qtel CEO visits Texas A&M research lab

DOHA: Texas A&M Qatar welcomed and hosted a campus tour for the head of Qatar Telecommunications (Qtel)Qatar Telecommunications (Qtel)
. The university currently operates a QtelQtel
wireless research and development laboratory and is presently guiding three communications projects funded by QtelQtel
. Dr Nasser Marafih, QtelQtel
CEO, recently visited Texas A&M for a campus tour, especially of the university's engineering laboratories. QtelQtel
and Texas A&M have collaborated since 2005 to establish mutually beneficial research into third generation (3G) networks, technologies and services.
The university currently operates a QtelQtel
wireless research and development lab dedicated to evaluating technology, understanding the development of wireless and wired internetworking and developing protocols and applications for seamless mobile operation.
-funded projects create opportunities for students to gain exposure to real-world industry problems and developing technologies. The University's Wireless Communication Research Laboratory funded by QtelQtel
is currently at work on the development and application of cutting-edge technologies such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE), High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) and cognitive radio. QtelQtel
's "Generations Broadband Wireless Communication Netowrks" programme provides vibrant support for the University and promotes the engineering school's researchers globally. The research studies have thus far produced results which have been presented in 13 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) peer-reviewed journals and 29 conferences. The collaboration has created a launch pad for research and development in Qatar and has contributed to the country's expansive growth and advancement.
The tour included a formal welcome from Texas A&M with Dean and CEO Mark Weichold, and presentations by senior department heads from the University's Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering departments, as well as the school's state-of-the-art Immersive Visualization Lab.
