Visitor numbers on the first day of the 35th annual Middle East Electricity exhibition, which was officially opened by HE Butti Al Ghandi of Dubai World Trade Centre, have shown a 33% year on year increase, underpinning the strength of the regional energy and water sectors.

The show, ranked by exhibitors and visitors as the world's leading event of its kind, features 1,000 exhibitors from 54 countries, and presents a comprehensive showcase of products and services from every aspect of the energy, water and lighting industries.

"We're delighted with this remarkable growth in visitor numbers," said Anita Mathews, Exhibition Director, IIR Middle EastIIR Middle EastLoading..., the organisers of the event. "It clearly demonstrates the vital importance of the energy and water sectors throughout the region, and exhibitors are reporting serious interest in their products and services."

Siemens Transformers LLC, who recently opened a brand new 30,000 square metre Greenfield production facility for distribution transformers and package substation in Industrial City, Abu Dhabi reported that visitor traffic to their stand has been very heavy. "The response has already far exceeded our expectations and we have many potential new clients," said General Manager - Franz Hierz. "Middle East Electricity is vital for us, both in terms of marketing our products and services as well as raising awareness that we now have a full manufacturing and after sales support capability in the UAE, which enables us to get closer to our customers and serve the entire GCC region."

Christof von Branconi, Board Member, Tagnum Group, whose MTU brand has a strong presence at the show, was equally enthusiastic about the first day of the show. "This is one of the shows that we see as being key events for us every year," he said. "The Middle East is a focus area for us in terms of gensets and power generation, and the beauty of this event is that it also reaches way beyond the immediate region. Everyone who is anyone in the industry is here, and there has been significant interest in our products - we're confidently looking forward to the rest of the show."

Middle East Electricity 2010, which also features the region's only showcase of lighting-related products for the industrial, residential and commercial sectors, runs through until Thursday 11th February at Dubai International Exhibition Centre. Entry is free for industry professionals.
