Sheikha Fadia: Prince Charles in joint stock company on sustainble development |
|
LONDON -- An international joint stock company for construction based on the sustainable development will be set up with British Crown Prince Charles among its main shareholders, Cheif Executive Officer of Jana real estate company, Sheikha Fadia Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said here Saturday.
The company which took the name of "Urban FP" is a parnership among the Prince Charles beneficiary non-profit institution, a Latvian investor and the Kuwaiti Jana real estate company, Sheikha Fadia said in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of her participation in a conference sponsored by the Prince Charles institution for urban environment.
Sheikha Fadia added, "We understand the tendency of real estate companies before the global financial crisis toward construction that depends on the old conventional ways that caused big damage to society and environment." She pointed out that buildings consume a great amount of energy in the processes of refrigeration, heating and lighting, particularly what is emitted by the heating appliances of carbon dioxide wastes.
However, Sheikha Fadia pointed out that conditions altered now following the global financial crisis and its impact as the decline in the property prices and the cost of building materials made construction according to the sustainable development method inexpensive like before.
She went on to say that Jana property company will work according to the modern method in order to construct buildings with the least damage possible to society and environment along with taking the material benefits gained by the investors into consideration.
The London-based Prince Charles institution for urban environment aims at adopting the concepts of the urban development and environmental sustainability as part of the infrastructure projects, she said.
She added that this institution is an educational and non-profit one that seeks the betterment of the life quality of people through education and applying the ecological methods of planning, designing and construction.
Sheikha Fadia said that environmental sustainability is related to the real estate development projects in two ways; the first is through encouraging the wise use of the renewable and limited resources alongside reducing the impact of their use on the environment.
As for the second, she added, it is related to the ability of the urban environment to cope with the accelerating increase of human requirements and needs, expressing her admiration for the futuristic thought whether on the concepts or the strategies that Prince Charles institution seeks their consolidation.
Further, Sheikha Fadia expressed her admiration for the Prince Charles institution for urban environment as an entity capable of inspiring others due to its integration of the sustainability concept into the urban planning and its ability to develop urban projects that may improve the social and ecological health of the society.
In the same vein, Sheikha Fadia discussed here with the British Crown Prince and the honorary president of the urban environment institution Prince Charles the method of applying the idea of the sustainable development to the infrastructure and architecture.
Sheikha Fadia told KUNA following this meeting that it made an offer to Prince Charles on Kuwait's next year hosting of the urban environment conference that is currently held in Britain for the seventh year running, noting that Prince Charles welcomed the idea.
Moreover, Sheikha Fadia expressed her hopes that this conference will have the sponsorship of the Kuwaiti political leadership, particularly as the Prince Charles institution is a non-profit entity and aims at encouraging the wise use of the natural renewable resources.
Finally, she asserted that Kuwait's hosting of a significant event such as this conference that is concerned with the environmental conservation is, "An intellectual blastoff for Kuwait", as it embodies a thought that focuses on the man's capability of handling nature and making best use of it.
