Amman -- Jordan and Saudi Arabia signed today an organ transplantation cooperation agreement, setting a framework for a joint program in this field.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Health Nayef Al Fayez and his Saudi Counterpart Abdullah Abdul Aziz Al-Rabeeah after talks in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
"Saudi Arabia has a developed program and center for organ transplantation," Al Fayez told Petra over the phone.
He added that under the agreement, Jordanian physicians would visit Saudi Arabia for specialized training courses at the centre.
The two sides approved the executive plan for operating 14 hospitals in the northern part of Saudi Arabia by Jordanian medical and technical cadres in a periodical way.
"The first step will include field visits by a joint team for the northern hospitals to have a first-hand look at the specializations and cadres needed for them," the minister said.
"The Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, university hospitals and private hospitals will contribute to providing these hospitals with their needs.
" Al Fayez said Saudi Arabia expressed readiness to train Jordanian medical cadres on its specialized children intensive care program.
Jordan and Saudi Arabia signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in areas of medical engineering and preventive medicine, said the minister, adding that the ministry's medical engineering directorate was accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a regional center to train engineers to use medical devices.
