The total number of accidents recorded in the first nine months of this year dipped by 3.32% compared to the same period last year, and mortality and injuries rates dropped by 26.94% and 12.19% respectively".
."RTARTA
has carried out studies for compiling an integrated traffic safety strategy expected to result in reducing accident fatalities to the levels prevailing in the best global cities by 2015", commented Al TayerAl Tayer
.
He noted: "RTARTA
believes that enhancing traffic education and promoting traffic awareness among all road users is a community duty that cannot be completed without the concerted efforts of various government and private institutions involving all community segments, particularly parents". Based on these grounds RTARTA
signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the MoI, which gave a great boost to their existing strategic partnership relations with a view to minimizing traffic congestion, crashes and run-over accidents, besides placing these aspects, together with the enhanced traffic education, at the forefront of their priorities. "Ensuring effective road traffic safety requires extensive cooperation between all stakeholders such as the MoI, RTARTA
, UAE General Police HQs, Civil Defence Departments, Ambulance services, Education sector, private entities and Non-Government Organizations" continued Al TayerAl Tayer
.
RTARTA
Chairman of the Board & Executive Director referred to three key factors capable of making roads network a safe environment for all users; namely: Improving Vehicular Safety, Improving Road Safety Standards, and Upgrading Drivers Skills & Attitudes. He explained: "While the first factor basically rests in the hands of vehicle manufacturers, RTARTA
is currently engaged in upgrading legislations regulating annual vehicle testing, improving safety standards and upgrading drivers skills & conduct through adopting world-class standards in auditing traffic safety of the new projects. Accordingly, RTARTA
will ensure that road networks fulfill the highest security & safety standards; which is a key objective of RTARTA
