- Text size
KUWAIT CITY - Renowned political activist Khalid Al-Abdulali expressed happiness that the Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs, State Minister for Housing Affairs and State Minister for Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahd Al-Sabah is serious about solving housing problems, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press statement, Al-Abdulali declared the government should find a lasting solution to housing problems, since all efforts of the previous government failed. He suggested that the government should devise a new mechanism for land allocation, using it to construct public housing units and distribute plots to deserving applicants.
Al-Abdulali hoped that the 15-year waiting period is done away with. He appreciated the vision of Sheikh Al-Fahad and his ability to execute future plans in a scientific manner. He stressed that past experience has shown the government was unable to find a comprehensive solution in that regard. Al-Abdulali suggested if the government cannot execute the plans within a short period, it should allow the private sector to execute it, a system that has been successful in many countries. He continued that giving the private sector the opportunity to execute such projects will bring a lasting solution after a long wait. "The world is dynamic, so we must fast-track developmental programs to catch up with neighboring nations in that aspect", he urged.
Meanwhile earlier, Sheikh Ahmad disclosed the Housing Affairs Committee meeting was successful. Sheikh Ahmad revealed the meeting deliberated on the plights of certain segment of the society pertaining to accommodation, which require amendment of the subsistent bill or promulgation of new ones in that regard. He said this is the way to ensure cooperation between the parliament and the Council of Ministers to resolving housing problems, and stated that several issues related to housing care for Kuwaiti women, raising the valuation ceiling to KD300, 000 and documentation of the Amiri grant from which some families and martyrs have not benefited, including many others who are yet to register, are major pending issues.
"I have been collating problems facing citizens on daily basis with statistical data, in order to device suitable method of dealing with them altogether," he hinted. In his reaction to the spate of grilling procedures in the political terrain, Sheikh Fahad noted that nobody has right to talk about grilling except sponsors of the grilling and respondents. He, however, affirmed that grilling is the constitutional right of the lawmakers, so government will also handle the issues appropriately. "It is pertinent to respond adequately to those issues, so that everybody can witness the outcome," the minister reiterated.
