Fujairah International AirportFujairah International AirportLoading... plans to open an executive business jet terminal next year, a senior airport official said.

"We are opening a terminal for executive business jets equipped with five-star facilities and a dedicated aircraft parking by mid next year," Dr Khaled Almazroui, General Manager, Fujairah International AirportFujairah International AirportLoading..., told Emirates Business.

The terminal can accommodate about four aircraft at a time, and will have separate immigration and passport control sections. It will also have an access for VIPs.

The airport handles 60 flights a day and 90 per cent of them are cargo flights. He believes the business jet terminal facility will attract more business to Fujairah.

"There are around 2,000 business jet movements a year in the UAE and our target is to get at least 10 per cent of the market share. Moreover, the business jet terminal will help local business more once a new highway between Fujairah and Dubai is completed by the end of 2010 reducing distance between the two cities from the current 150 km to 77 km," he said.

The construction of the terminal has started and the airport has entered into an agreement with an Australian company to manage the terminal and do marketing activities.

"The terminal will have a very competitive rate in terms of landing, ground handling and parking charges, compared to other airports in the region," he said.

From January until September, the airport saw a 30 per cent year-on-year growth in aircraft movement, a seven per cent growth in cargo volume, and five per cent growth in passenger numbers.
