Jordan's Investment Climate Outlined in JIIC

The Dead Sea -- The Jordan International Investment Conference 2009 (JIIC) has started on Wednesday at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center at the Dead Sea shore with the participation of leading policy makers, investors as well as local and international businessmen.

The two- day conference will outline investment opportunities in Jordan, the role of the public and private sectors in developing investment environment in the Kingdom as well as other investment- related issues.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suheir Al Ali, Labor Minister Ghazi Shbeikat, and Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan Ummaya Toukan outlined Jordan's investment climate, highlighting investment privileges in the Kingdom in various sectors.

Al Ali pointed that Jordan has conducted a number of reforms with the aim of creating attractive investment climate and finding new job opportunities, noting to the executive program of the National Agenda / We Are All Jordan initiative for the years 2007-2009.

The Minister also called on the private sector to play a greater role in implementing developmental projects and achieving suitable development, stressing the importance of foreign finance to implement developmental projects in the Kingdom.

Minister of Labor Ghazi Shbeikat highlighted Jordan's labor legislations and programs, noting that the Kingdom has achieved remarkable progress in vocational and technical education field.

On vocational training domain, the Minister said that the Ministry of Labor has established 15 centers in the various governorates, noting that other centers would be established soon.

We intend to establish a mining academy in cooperation with countries and companies working in energy sector in the Kingdom, Shebeikat said, calling on investors to launch new projects and benefit from investment privileges in the Kingdom.

Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan Ummaya Toukan, for his part, outlined measures taken by the bank to face challenges of the international financial crisis, stressing that the bank looks forward to restoring the normal ratio of economic growth.

The conference is organized by the Jordan Investment Board, Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation, Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Jordan Chamber of Industry, the Jordan Businessmen Association, and supported by Lawrence & Husseini Consult.
