KUWAIT: 228 of the 643 school pupils who recently sat the Religious Studies exam as part of their high school degree course passed, including 205 of the 471 Kuwaiti pupils who sat it. The results were announced on Thursday by Ministry of Education (MoE) Undersecretary Tamador Al-Sdairawi, who said that the results showed a pass average for this subject of 58.3 percent.

Deputy Assistant for Qualitative Education Mohammad Al-Kandari called the Religious Studies exam results "sensible", predicting that the pass rate average would rise after the second term results were announced. He also said that Kuwait University treats its Religious Studies students in the same way as it does Literature students, stressing that the Religious Studies section maintains high standards always.

Al-Sdairawi and Al-Kandari were speaking at a press conference held by the ministry, at which the undersecretary also revealed that the ministry had completed the school clinics project and submitted it to the Central Tenders Committee, emphasizing the importance of completing such projects promptly.

Al-Sdairawi explained that the ministry would introduce the clinics in a small number of schools until all the tenders for the rest of the schools had been finalized, reported Al-Qabas. She also revealed that she would be meeting with the ministry's Deputy Assistant for Administrative Affairs on Sunday to discuss the school meals project being introduced in elementary schools.

On the subject of the electronic teaching project, Al-Sdairawi said that she had met with members of the ministry's electronic teaching committee and given then instructions for finalizing preparations for the project before reviewing it with education minister Dr Moudhi Al-Humoud.
