Ecobility Energy Solutions, the brain behind the 'Make the Switch' campaign, the nationwide drive to save energy, yesterday said thousands of NakheelNakheelLoading... communities' residents participated in a scheme to avail of Illume energy-efficient bulbs.

Residents who took part in the drive (www.MakeTheSwtich.ae), are now set to collectively achieve a reduction of about 1.46 million kWh in electricity consumption resulting in savings of Dh300,000, by simply switching their incandescent bulbs with Illume bulbs.

Ecobility, which aims to introduce one million Illume bulbs into the UAE market, made the bulbs available for sale directly to NakheelNakheelLoading... communities.

The plan was met with an enthusiastic response, proving that the UAE residents are more than willing to lead sustainable lifestyles given the chance.

Wadah Abusin, Co-founder and Managing Partner, Ecobility, said: "The 'Make The Switch' campaign is about helping people realise that environmentally significant changes are quickly and easily achievable. Often people are overwhelmed by the state of the world environment, but during the course of our activity at NakheelNakheelLoading... communities, we were able to demonstrate that initiating a change can be as simple as switching a light bulb."

The reduced energy consumption achieved by NakheelNakheelLoading... residents will mitigate about 881,000 kilogram of carbon emissions, equivalent to removing about 169 cars off the roads.

Abusin said: "If so few residents can generate such levels of savings and environmental benefits, imagine what can be achieved if all the UAE residents switched their incandescent bulbs for Illume. The change is simple, but the results are staggering."

Illume bulbs consume about one-fifth of the power of incandescent bulbs to provide the same light intensity and warm white colour, last 10 times longer and emit 70 per cent less heat.

The bulbs also last substantially longer than most other energy-saving bulbs currently available in the UAE market.

Illume bulbs are available across the UAE, including Lulu, Union Co-op, Al Maya, The One, Sharaf DG and Emarat petrol stations as well as at Abela and Speedex Superstores. For a limited time, the bulbs can be bought for Dh10 for a twin-pack.
