Three swine flu cases detected in the Oman

MUSCAT -- Three Omani students returning from the United States have been confirmed as the first cases of the new H1N1 swine flu in the Sultanate, reports said yesterday.
Their blood samples, which were collected on their arrival from one of the GCC airports on June 13, were tested and results turned positive, a senior Health MinistryHealth Ministry
official said. "The H1N1 Control and Followup Committee has taken appropriate measures, including dispensing medications to patients whose conditions are now stable. There is no need to admit them to a hospital," the official said.
"The patients have been advised to stay at home till they recover fully. Samples were also collected from their families and they are followed up every now and then," he said. HIN1 patients will not be admitted to hospitals, except if the case is severe, the official said.
Over 100 swine flu cases have been detected across 12 Eastern Mediterranean countries, including the Sultanate, till yesterday, according to WHO. No deaths have been reported from the region.
Cases confirmed
In the last 24 hours alone, 22 new cases have been confirmed in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Among these, Qatar reported three, Yemen one and Jordan two cases, officials said.

Muscat Municipality yesterday issued a statement that mobile SMSs circulating about the shutting down of a restaurant after one of its staff was reportedly diagnosed with H1N1 are false. The statement notes that the
municipality has not shut any restaurant in the governorate of Muscat.
"All tourist restaurants are operating normally and infections cannot be transmitted through food," the note said.
