Urgent Health Measures to Prevent Entrance of Swine Flu into Syria

Damascus - Animal Health Directorate at the Agriculture Ministry has said that it has taken all preemptive measures to limit the risk of the move of infection of Swine flu to Syria.
Director of Animal Health at the Ministry Dr. Ziyad Namour yesterday pointed out that a series of urgent technical meetings have been held with the participation of all branches of the directorate in the Syrian governorates and have adopted a package of strict decisions to consolidate animal resources and all kinds of animal production shipments arriving to all crossings borders.
He added that the incoming passengers are not allowed to accompany any kind of meat, emphasizing the citizens' full commitment to decisions connected to preventing hunting birds or wild animals under their own responsibility, intensifying biological security measures on domestic animals and farms of animals' breeding and preventing possible breeding of pigs.
He asserted that there is not any licensed farm of breeding pigs in Syria.
He stressed that the national emergency plan connected to birds' flu stipulates for formation of main and sub technical committees and teams for urgent interference in case of any infections had recorded.
