Ajman City Centre joins forces with police to increase road safety
- Text size
Ajman, UAE, March 30, 2009: Ajman City Centre and Ajman Police hosted a joint road safety awareness campaign to educate visitors to the mall on the dangers of driving while using a mobile phone.
Research shows that talking on a mobile makes drivers less aware, and reduces their ability to control the vehicle - the likehood of an accident dramatically increases by up to four times.
For four days last week, Ajman Police staff educated shoppers at Ajman City Centre on the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving. They gave away specially produced brochures, T-shirts, caps, pens and colouring books for children.
Colonel Ali Saeed Al Matroushi from Ajman Police said, "While mobile phones have become an important part of our lives, there is no doubt that using them while driving significantly increases the risk of an accident. Our message is simple - avoid using mobile phones altogether while driving. If you must take a call, pull in and park in a safe place or use a hands-free device."
Jassem Al Khaja, General Manager, Ajman City Centre says it is not just the driver's life that is in danger but those around them. "No phone call is worth putting your life or the lives of others at risk. We are very glad to partner with Ajman Police to help increase safety on the Emirate's roads. I hope our visitors found this campaign useful and will help in spreading the message among the wider community."
