Qatar: Vodafone cells start ringing

DOHA: Vodafone QatarVodafone Qatar
said the first customers connected to its network have already been using their VodafoneVodafone
numbers making local calls and sending text messages.
"We are still running some tests but we have already delivered a few numbers, which are now being used by some customers. The VodafoneVodafone
numbers released can call local VodafoneVodafone
and QTELQTEL
numbers... Full-scale service will be available in the following weeks and the network will be commercially active later this year," said Grahame Maher, chief executive officer of Vodafone QatarVodafone Qatar
.
Calls will be charged at Dh55 per minute and text messaging/SMS is at Dh40 during the two-month promotion. Vodafone QatarVodafone Qatar
announced earlier it will connect the "first 100 customers," selected from VodafoneVodafone
's first 1,000 customers, to its network today. The 900 will be linked to the network over the following days.
