managed by Cleveland Clinic announces the appointment of Dr. Atul C. Mehta as Chief Medical Officer at SKMCSKMC
as of January 1st 2009. Dr. Mehta served as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Head of the Section of Bronchology and Medical Director of the Lung Transplantation team at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He received his medical degree from Municipal Medical College, Gujarat University in India. Following his internship in India, he underwent General Practice residency at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, PA., and an Internal Medicine Residency at Hahnamann Medical College Affiliate Hospitals in Trenton, N.J., and Easton, Pa. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease at the Cleveland Clinic.

Biographical Sketch of Dr. Atul C. Mehta, M.B., B.S.
Atul C. Mehta, M.B., B.S., has been appointed as a Chief Medical Officer of the Sheikh Khalifa Medical CitySheikh Khalifa Medical City
, Abu-Dhabi as of January 1st 2009. He served as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Head of the Section of Bronchology and Medical Director of the Lung Transplantation at Cleveland Clinic, over the last ten years. His specialty interests are Lung Cancer, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Bronchoscopy and Lung Transplantation. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases. Dr. Mehta's research interests are in the areas of Therapeutic Bronchoscopy and Lung Transplantation.
Dr. Mehta received his medical degree from the Municipal Medical College, Gujarat University in India. Dr. Mehta's excellence in medicine has been recognized nationally and internationally among his peers and the healthcare community. In 1992, he received the Cleveland Clinic's Bruce Hubbard Steward Award for his ability to combine sensitivity and compassion with knowledge and skill in the practice of medicine. Over the years he has received numerous awards including "Maria & Sam Miller-Master Educator of the Year" 2006 Award: Cleveland Clinic, "2006 - Clinical Educator of the Year" Award: American Thoracic Society-Clinical Problems Assembly, Presidential Citation Honor Lecture: American College of Chest Physicians-2005 for his abilities as an educator.
Dr. Mehta has established himself as an innovative leader through advances in the medical field of Flexible bronchoscopy and Transbronchial Needle Aspiration. In 2006, he was recognized for his work through the Innovator Award for Bronchoscopic Catheter for the Implantation of Fiducial Markers for Brachytherapy from the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Mehta was the founder and president of the American Association for Bronchology. Dr. Mehta is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, International Bronchoesophagological Society, International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation and World Association for Bronchology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and American College of Physicians, Dr. Mehta also serves as an Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and sits on the Editorial Board of several other Journals including Chest and Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine. He has also served as a reviewer for journals including Cancer, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and the New England Journal of Medicine.
