Qatar-US ties have taken off: American envoy

DOHA: The impending launch of Qatar AirwaysQatar Airways
' flights to Houston testifies to the strengthening relations between the two countries, US Ambassador to Qatar, Joseph LeBaron has said.

to highlight the leisure and business opportunities offered by its newest destination, which marks the airline's first foray into America's southern states. Speaking in English and Arabic, LeBaron stressed the strong economic ties between the two countries - including the fact that two-way trade has increased by more than 340 percent since 2003. He thanked Qatar AirwaysQatar Airways
for its vital role in achieving closer ties between the two countries.
Qatar is home to the world's third largest gas reserves and is the world's leading exporter of liquefied natural gas. With its abundant oil and gas reserves and status as one of the fastest growing economies in the world it will benefit from the new service as Houston has the most natural oil resources in the United States and is home to more than 5,000 energy-related companies.
Speaking on the occasion, Qatar AirwaysQatar Airways
Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: "With a flying time of under 17 hours, this will be the longest flight in Qatar AirwaysQatar Airways
' route network and one of the longest non-stop services in the world."
Al Baker said by linking Doha and Houston, Qatar AirwaysQatar Airways
will bridge the energy capitals of the Middle East and North America. Attended by Qatar's social and business elite, dignitaries and local VIPs, the Houston-themed dinner was a tribute to the new link between the global energy centres of Texas and the Gulf region. Qatar AirwaysQatar Airways
will launch daily non-stop flights between Doha and Houston on March 30 the airline's third US route.
The guests were treated to a sumptuous menu of US-themed fine cuisine, whilst enjoying a dynamic performance by UAE-based jazz band Salha, which wowed the crowd with its jazz numbers.
