Qtel Oasis resort opens to families

The Peninsula

09 January 2009
DOHA: Qtel Oasis, the country's largest open air resort spread over an expansive 96,000 square metres, opened yesterday to families, both nationals and residents, attracting a good turnout, a senior official from QtelQtelLoading... said.

"Despite the fact that people are now busy watching the ongoing Gulf Cup football tournament, the turnout on the first day was good and we are expecting a massive number of visitors tomorrow," Khaled Remeithy, Public Relation Section Head and Oasis Manager, told The Peninsula yesterday.

Located near the coast, some three kilometres from Mesaieed and close to Endurance Village, Qtel Oasis features a wide range of attractions and family-friendly facilities and is officially Qatar's largest open air resort.

The resort has been launched to coincide with the peak of the camping season, when thousands of people take advantage of the temperate weather to spend time outdoors and enjoy the natural beauty of Qatar. Visitors will be able to enjoy the same level of access to the natural surroundings at the Qtel Oasis that they would on a camping trip, but will have the safety and security of being in a controlled environment.

The area is fully equipped with key utilities, such as electricity, water and even wireless broadband internet access across the whole of the site. There is a full fire safety and emergency prevention infrastructure in place.

This will be supported by a dedicated area for Qatar Red Crescent, which will have full-time representatives on site, and will offer training courses to the public every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Qtel Oasis will be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 2pm to 10pm. Initially, Oasis will be open for the first four months of 2009, but the project will continue if there is strong public interest and support for the initiative.
