The contract was signed on Tuesday by Ali Saleh Al-Barrak, chief executive officer of SECSECLoading..., and Sabah Al-Mutlaq, vice chairman of Alfanar GroupAlfanar GroupLoading..., in the presence of Abdullah Al-Hamad, division manager of Alfanar Construction.

As part of an interconnection plan, the proposed substation will also be linked to several other substations -- including the Aziziah South substation and the Shoaibah substation -- and Makkah's 380 kV overhead transmission lines.

The project is scheduled for implementation in 29 months and will enhance capacity to meet growing demand for electricity in Makkah, especially in the Haram area.

"Alfanar Construction has to its credit the implementation of several SECSECLoading... key projects in different parts of the Kingdom with a total value of more than SR3 billion," said Al-Mutlaq.

He added that the most remarkable project being executed by Alfanar include the 380/110/13.8kV Al-Kandarah substation in Jeddah worth SR500 million. "This project will serve the central part of Jeddah city and aims at increasing the reliability of electricity in those areas," he added.

The company is also involved in the expansion of the Sharourah power plant by adding three generating units with a total 51 MW power capacity at a value of more than SR380 million. In addition, Alfanar Construction has been awarded the construction of the 380 kV substation connecting Rabigh (2) power plant, the first phase of which is worth SR505 million.
