Shahid Beheshti University to cooperate with Harvard, Texas U

Faculty of Medical Sciences of Iran's Martyr Beheshti University and 2 US universities, namely Harvard and Texas State University are to sign to scientific research cooperation agreements on ways for controlling cancer diseases.

Head of Martyr Beheshti University's Faculty of Medical Sciences' Research Center for Digestion System and Liver Diseases, Dr.

Mohammad-Reza Zali announced the news in an interview with IRNA Scientific Desk reporter here Wednesday.

He added, "Following a visit by he Secretary General of the US Academy of Sciences, a member of the board of trustees of the M. D.

Anderson Cancer Research Center of Texas State University (TSU), another TSU professor, and a Harvard University professor were scheduled to visit our faculty of medical sciences, when those agreements will be signed."

Zali referred to the exchange of professors and students, as well as conducting joint research works as other articles of the Iranian-US universities' scientific cooperation agreement.

Professors of the above mentioned US universities have arrived in Iran last Saturday upon invitations sent to them by Marty Beheshti University for cooperation with Iranian professors in the course of joint research works.

The head of Martyr Beheshti University's Center for Research on Digestion System and Liver Diseases said that the objective behind extending the invitation has been familiarizing the Iranian university professors with the scientific methods and achievements of their western colleagues.

Zali said, "The US academic delegations has so far visited the faculties of medical sciences of Martyr Beheshti University, Tehran University, and Isfahan University."

According to IRNA Scientific Desk, one of the members of the elegation is Dr. John Mendelssohn, the head of M. D. Anderson Cancer research Center of TSU, one of the most famous cancer research centers in the world.

Another distinguished guest of Martyr Beheshti University is Dr.

Fineberg of Harvard University, the former head of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of that university, who had held that position for a period of 17 years.

The third member of the delegation is an Iranian born, US doctor, Saberiyoun, who is currently also the Managing Director of Sapco Texas Oil Company and a member of the Board of Trustees of the M. D.

Anderson Company, while the fourth, and the leader of the US academic delegation, is the managing director of the US Academy of Sciences.
