Welcare introduces general and laparoscopic surgeon services

Press Release

24 November 2008
Muscat: Welcare Diagnostic and Treatment Center has introduced the services of a general and laparoscopic surgeon to consult and treat for elective surgery including general and laparoscopic surgery procedures.

Dr. Christopher Dias, Medical Director at Welcare DTC, said: "It should make a real difference to the residents of Muscat. The quality of service to the patient will improve and they will have a service that is appropriate, convenient and with a much better pathway through our system at the clinic."

The wide range of general surgery problems and procedures covered at Welcare DTC includes breast masses (tumors) and thyroid gland dysfunction and tumors; venous problems such as varicose veins and ulcers; and lymphatic problems such as enlarged lymph nodes.

Treatment also includes all types of hernia with synthetic mesh repair which is known to have a very low recurrence rate like inguinal, umbilical, and ventral hernias. Incisional hernia, which follows some surgical procedures, and laparoscopic repair of recurrent hernia (after previous surgery) - a new laparoscopic technique of repairing such hernia is available at the clinic.

Gastro intestinal problems are investigated and treated, such as gall bladder stones and polyps by laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which carry less post operative pain, a short hospital stay and an early return to normal activity. All kinds of anorectic complaints such as piles, fistula and fissures and masses are dealt with in the most technologically advanced manner.

The laparoscopic care in the center includes chronic abdominal pains being investigated and treated by diagnostic laparoscopy. Other surgeries include laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic varicocelectomy and excision of intra abdominal undescended testis that carry high incidence of malignant transformation. Laparoscopic adhesiolysis is used to avoid more adhesion formation after open surgery and the concept of laparoscopic recurrent hernia, both umbilical and incisional repair by advanced biomedical technology mesh is adopted in the clinic to avoid major insults to the tissues by repeat open surgery and for positive post-operative results.

Investigations of a wide range of care for surgical problems are available at Welcare DTC. These include mammography and duplex ultra sound studies. The senior consultant is available in clinic on an appointment basis and can be reached on 24477666 or email info@welcare-muscat.co.om
