Galfar, Vale ink RO18.5m deal for civil works in Sohar

MUSCAT -- Construction major Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOGGalfar Engineering & Contracting SAOGLoading... has been awarded the prestigious contract for carrying out civil works related to the construction of the 9 MTPA pelletising plant being constructed in Sohar by Vale.

The contract, valued at RO18.5 million, was signed by Sergio Leite, managing director, Vale; and Dr Hans Erlings, GalfarGalfarLoading... CEO, at Crowne Plaza Hotel yesterday.

Vale is a pioneering global mining company, with headquarters in Brazil, converting minerals into essential end products for use in daily life. Sixty years into its existence, Vale employs over 100,000 people worldwide with one mission, and that is to transform mineral resources into prosperity and sustainable development. The initiative to set up this plant in Oman reflects Vale's strategy to support the steel industry in the Middle East.

The company is presently engaged in the construction of the Hasik-Shuwaimiya Road in the Dhofar region as well as the Expressway Project in Muscat.

In the civil and utilities sector, GalfarGalfarLoading... is constructing a major part of the Duqm Dry Dock Project. It is also executing some major power transmission line projects along with construction of primary sub-stations and building electromechanical and HVAC projects.
