German technology seeks UAE entry |
|
A German readymix company is in negotiations with six firms to introduce its new technology in the UAE.
FML Concretec, a member of the FML Group, said companies would be able to cut about 10 per cent in costs by using its new concrete production technology. Two Dubai-based companies are already testing the product, said Antonio Catarino, Managing Director of FML Concretec, in an interview with Emirates Business.
"We are coming into the region at the right time. Everybody is talking about reducing costs and CO2 emissions. I am looking at all major players in the region using our product and expect sales to reach $200 million in the next two years."
The company is also in talks with leading architectural and engineering firms in the UAE and the region.
"Through the FML Concretec processing technique, readymix and precast manufacturers can save at least 10 per cent on costs and also considerably improve the quality," said Catarino.
Another potential market is self-compacting concrete, which he says could ensure savings of up to 50 per cent. According to Catarino the potential for savings is derived from the reduced water-cement ratio and from the possibility of using substitutes for cement such as sand, powdered limestone or flue ash in production, or using cement of a lower quality while still achieving the same excellent results.
"We have a two step treatment. First we use electromagnetic impulses and generate more energy to water, spreading the molecules and thereby making the water very fine. Secondly we put the fine water in our system, which works at 1,500 rpm, and this energy collects the agglomeration and grinds the particles," he added.
With the GCC countries in the process of constructing more and more super tall structures, Catarino said it is very important to produce a very high quality of concrete.
"The existing systems can only produce concrete with a maximum quality of 60-70 newtons per sq mm. We have proved that our system can produce concrete that will cross 100 newtons per sq mm," he said. "Companies can reap the extra cost of investing in our machinery within nine months through the savings. In a project like Burj Dubai, the cost could have been reduced by almost Dh50m by using the FML Concretec technology."
