Protest against Gaza blockade slated for today in Hashemi Shamali |

AMMAN - The Islamic Action Front (IAF) is scheduled to hold a public demonstration in Hashemi Shamali on Thursday to protest Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, a party statement said on Wednesday.
The march in the east Amman district will begin after evening prayers as organisers hope that a large number of citizens will participate.
This is the third IAF protest in a week to receive official approval.
"Jordan wants to put pressure on Israel and the US by sending a message that we cannot keep pressuring people and preventing them from venting their anger about what is happening in the Palestinian areas," said Fares Breizat, from the University of Jordan's Centre for Strategic Studies.
The three events are the first of their kind since Hamas took control of Gaza in June 2006 after a bloody confrontation with Fateh.
Breizat also believes the demonstration is a fruit of improved ties between the authorities and Hamas.
It also serves as a tool to "absorb growing public frustration over the events in the Palestinian areas", he added.
"When we see that all stations are allocating time in their news broadcasts to the suffering of Gazans, then it becomes natural that the government will allow the demonstrations," said Breizat.
The IAF appealed to the public to participate in the demonstration "in solidarity with the Palestinian people, suffering from a humanitarian tragedy".
According to Ahmad Taweel, head of the IAF branch in Hashemi Shamali, the march will begin in front of the party's headquarters and end at the Plaza Mall in the eastern Amman area.
He said the party has received the go-ahead to hold the gathering from Amman Governor Saad Wadi Manasir.
