Over 10,000 benefit from Haya Water plant upgrade
- Text size
MUSCAT -- Haya WaterHaya Water
has invested RO 3 million to bring about major improvements in wastewater drainage for the Sarooj area of Muscat. New state-of-the-art technology, the first time ever used in Oman, has been brought in to deliver the highest possible standard of wastewater treatment at the Sarooj treatment plant. By the end of 2008, when the upgraded plant is fully operational, there will be more than sufficient capacity to cope with current needs and problems of overloading and odours will be a thing of the past. The new plant equipment uses "membrane bioreactor technology" to treat and produce water for irrigation well above current water quality and environmental standards.
The investment will bring about significant environmental and public health benefits, as well as improving the service which Haya WaterHaya Water
can deliver to its 10,000 residential and commercial customers in the area. Through innovative design and management, Haya WaterHaya Water
has been able to construct the new treatment facilities on the Sarooj site without any interruption to services to existing customers.
Similar work to upgrade the treatment facilities serving the Madinat Qaboos area is also nearing completion, and the upgraded plant is expected to be fully operational by early 2009. Both the Sarooj and Madinat Qaboos areas will ultimately drain to the major new treatment plant being completed at Al Ansab as part of the multi-million Rial Muscat Wastewater Project.
