MUSCAT -- AMIDEASTAMIDEASTLoading... and Mosaic LLC recently administered the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) for students at the National Hospitality Institute (NHI), enabling graduates to have an internationally recognised assessment of their English language proficiency for the workplace. Formed by Educational Testing Services (ETS) Princeton -- the world's largest private educational measurement organisation -- TOEIC measures everyday English skills of people working in an international environment. For more than 25 years, TOEIC test scores have helped thousands of corporations and governments throughout the world recruit, hire and promote the most qualified candidates.

More than 4.5 million people each year take the TOEIC to advance their careers, and Human Resources Depar-tments increasingly use the TOEIC as a pre-hiring qualification, a benchmark for promotions, and a tool for optimising resource utilisation. Similarly, Training Departments -- recognising the critical need for English in the increasingly globalised workplace -- TOEIC to assess employees' suitability for training and to measure language training outcomes. Supervisors whose employees have TOEIC scores can easily determine the complexity of tasks they can undertake in English, and can ascertain whether an employee can effectively participate in an international conference or workshop.

"We are very excited about introducing TOEIC in Oman," said Sarah Jackson, AMIDEAST/Oman Country Director. "It is especially appropriate that NHI is the first organisation to use the test, given the emphasis on building the tourism industry in the Sultanate, and we look forward to continuing to work with them on the administration of this unique assessment tool, in addition to making it available to others." "TOEIC is an effective language assessment tool which can be used in expanding business sectors like tourism, banking and finance, aviation, construction, hospitality, and so on," said Gladwin Dhavale, General Manager, Mosaic LLC.

"Given the significance of Omanisation, it is extremely important to prepare and equip young Omanis for the challenges of the international workplace. We are glad to administer the TOEIC in a premier institute like NHI." AMIDEASTAMIDEASTLoading... is a private, nonprofit organisation which strengthens mutual understanding and co-operation between Americans and the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa.
