UAE : Fine for Parking Trucks in Residential Areas

Khaleej Times

21 November 2008
Sharjah - Drivers who park their trucks in residential areas at night would risk Dh200 fine and vehicle impoundment for seven days, besides accruing two black points, as part of a campaign launched by Sharjah Police on Wednesday.

On the first day of the campaign, 67 heavy trucks were found violating the rule.

Truck drivers use some residential areas as rest places at night because they are close to the highways, such as Emirates Road, which links Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

The head of the Anjad patrol, Lt-Col. Ahmed bin Darweesh, told Khaleej Times that the emergency line '999' has been receiving a large number of complaints that trucks line up during the night in residential areas and causes disturbance.

The trucks also park near the entrance to the villas, blocking the way of the residents.

He said the some of the drivers park their trucks between 11:30pm and 5am and go away, causing inconvenience to residents of the areas and blocking the roads to vehicles that supply products to shopping outlets in the areas.

The campaign is specially targeting the trucks that are parked in residential areas close to the Al Falah military camp, areas stretching from third industrial bridge to fifth industrial bridge and areas close to Emirates Road that links the Northern Emirates.
