Dubai and the much celebrated tourism destination in DUBAILAND™, officially inaugurated the Guinness World Records Pavilion yesterday. The opening event was well attended by the Global Village Management headed by Abdul Redha Ali Bin Redha, Project Director of Global Village, members of staff of the Guinness World Records Pavilion, distinguished members of the press, and other registered guests.Known for its creative concepts of entertainment, Global Village has succeeded in attracting the global brand, Guinness World Records, to open the first of its kind in the world: a pavilion that provides park goers exciting opportunities to take part and set new records in various categories. This pavilion not only aims to entertain but also aspires to challenge the participants thus making the whole experience unforgettable.
During the opening ceremony, the attending crowds were encouraged to try to break some of the existing world records, which resulted in a new world record in "the game of operations" for Sasha Vasighi from india, who managed to complete this difficult game with a steady hand in 23 seconds amid loud cheers from the attending crowds. The previous record for completing the game was 1 minute and 2 seconds. Vasighi was awarded a GWR certificate by Bin Redha.
The pavilion, which is strategically located in front of the lake, is comprised of booths allotted for each record category. Guests are allowed to try different types of records to break that include most beads threaded, most number of socks sorted, most sand moved in 30 seconds, most banknotes counted in 1 minute, most number of basketball free-throws in 1 minute, fastest text message in English and Arabic, fastest typing using the nose, fastest M&M chocolate sorting using chopsticks, most clothes pegs held in one hand, longest coin spin, fastest game of operation, most shoelaces tied in 1 minute, most CDs flipped In 1 minute, loudest shout, loudest scream, loudest clap and loudest whistle.
Guinness World Records' Managing Director, Alistair Richards, explained that the Guinness World Records pavilion at the Global Village was a result of months of planning. "We were determined to create a platform that everyone can enjoy. Being in the Global Village fits perfectly with Guinness World Records' aim to attract a diversified spectrum of participants into our community of record breakers"
The Guinness World Records Pavilion is open every day at Global Village. Doors open at every four (4) in the afternoon until midnight except on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays when it is extended until one (1) in the morning. Mondays are allotted for families only.
