World Will Benefit From Persian Gulf Cooperation

Iran Daily

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said strengthening ties with the Persian Gulf Arab states can be a good model for brotherhood in the world.

In a meeting with the secretary-general of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Attiyah in the city of Khorramabad (in Lorestan province) on Wednesday, he stated that the Persian Gulf has always been a region of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation, Fars News Agency reported.

"Nothing has ever hindered expansion of brotherly ties that can and will certainly serve the interest of the region and the Muslim world."

He recalled that the Persian Gulf states have immense economic power that can be harnessed in the interest of its people.

Al-Attiyah, for his part, lauded the stances and diplomacy of President Ahmadinejad in building trust among PGCC states and Iran and promoting cordial ties.

He also reiterated support for Iran's civil nuclear program and said the council believes Iran has a right to advanced nuclear technology.

"PGCC is against any hurdles obstructing Iran's peaceful nuclear technology," the news agency quoted him as saying.

Ahmadinejad also received former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud in Khorramabad on Wednesday.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and Lebanon.

In another development Ahmadinejad urged western governments to respect justice and ethics to prevent consequences of their disruptive performance, particularly in the economic domains.

Addressing a public rally in the western city, he referred to the ongoing economic crisis in the world and said "This crisis is the result of your (western) acts and negligence of divine rules."

Some western regimes are the root of all corruption, he told the gathering.

He complained that the biggest crimes against humanity are committed by western powers.

Stressing that all nations, Iranians in particular, would stand up to any aggression, the president said, "Iranians will resist every form of aggression."

The government is determined to administer justice in all affairs of the country, he noted, and urged the people to participate in all relevant fields to help promote justice in society.

The president is visiting the province on the second round of his provincial tours to follow up implementation of the projects that were approved during the first round of his provincial tours.
