Methanol carrier Muttrah launched in South Korea

WINBO, South Korea -- Oman Shipping Company (OSC)Oman Shipping Company (OSC)Loading... held a ceremony here yesterday to mark the commissioning of methanol carrier Muttrah, taking to 12 the number of such vessels on the company's fleet. The launch ceremony was presided over by Ahmed bin Hassan al Deeb, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and board member of OSCOSCLoading.... It was attended by Moosa bin Hamdan al Ta'ee, the Sultanate's Ambassador to South Korea, among other officials. Al Deeb said that the event is considered an addition to the company's achievements and that the commissioning of Muttrah will enhance OSCOSCLoading...'s potential in meeting global demand for methanol processed in the Sultanate.

He explained that the carrier will be operated commercially in international lines, which will be a new addition to the national economy, besides enhancing the company's revenue. Talal bin Hamid al Aufi, CEO of Oman International Trading Company explained that Muttrah will market methanol processed by Salalah Methanol CompanySalalah Methanol CompanyLoading..., Dhofar, upon production by 2010. Prior to the beginning of methanol production in Salalah, OSCOSCLoading...'s two carriers will be hired in international markets, he added. On March 26, 2008 two lease contracts were signed with OSCOSCLoading... for a long period of up to 15 years from 2010, he said. OSCOSCLoading... expects to receive the second methanol carrier from the producing company by the end of this year The 50-tonne Muttrah is 184 metres long and 32 metres wide.
