US has made major shift in Iran policy: President

08 October 2008
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here on Tuesday evening that the US Administration has made major shift in its Iran policy thanks to the pressure from the American people to do so.

The president made the remarks in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.

The American people seriously requests their government to make reforms in its attitude towards the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said, adding that they are willing to have closer relations with Tehran.

The public pressure on Washington to mend ties with Tehran is increasing, Ahmadinejad said.

"Today, the US bullying has reached its end and Washington is obliged to change its attitude. Otherwise, it will suffer from the global waves," he added.

Iran has a clear stand about the ties with the United States, he said, adding, "We are interested in bilateral relations based on mutual respect and justice."

Asked about his opinion on the US presidential election in November, Ahmadinejad said, Tehran does not care who would be elected as new president since Iran has a clear and transparent stand.

Tehran would deal with the new president according to the condition and by maintaining its principles, he said.

On his statement at the UN General Assembly session, Ahmadinejad said his remarks at the meeting aimed to change the global atmosphere and the approach of the big powers towards the Islamic Republic.

It has been over one century that the world people have faced with the oppressive attitude of big powers, he said, adding that such atmosphere has come to an end.

The resistance of the Iranian nation to pursue its legitimate rights has changed the attitude of other countries towards Iran, he said, adding that Iran is a cultural, powerful and influential state that cannot accept illegal demand and imposition by big powers.
