Oman Daily Observer

09 July 2008
MUSCAT -- The Ministry of National Economy's Directorate- General of Economic Statistics announced the publication yesterday, of its Wholesale Price Index Bulletin's' first issue -- June 2008. That the purpose of the bulletin is to highlight price movements of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in Muscat, from 2001 to 2007, making use of a new index prepared from wholesale price data, collected since 2000, in the Muscat Governorate.

The index covers the prices of 258 locally-made and imported products, summarised in five main groups and 26 sub-groups. The index uses new weights taken from the total amount of each material produced locally or imported in 2000. The bulletin includes some analysis of the movement of the Wholesale Price Index from 2001 to 2007 and the drivers of the increases in the Index 2007. It describes the methodology used to construct the Index and presents 20 detailed tables with Index numbers for all 258 products.
