Dubai RTA issues strict new rules on quad bikes and jet skis

Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)
has introduced strict new rules to regulate the use of quad bikes and jet skis. In a statement issued on Saturday, the RTARTA
said that quad bikes and jet skis must now be registered with the RTARTA
's Licensing Agency. Driving unlicensed quake bikes and jet skis is no longer allowed. It is also considered illegal to drive quad bikes and scooters in residential areas, internal roads and beaches.
Those who wish to open up a business of renting out quad bikes and jet skis must first have the quad bikes and jet skis licensed with the RTARTA
. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, endorsed the new rules.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Police has launched an intensive campaign to crack down on unregistered bikes being used in undesignated areas.
The new rule calls for quad bike drivers to be at least 16 years old. Those below this age limit may use the facility under adult supervision.
Drivers also have to wear full gear designed to drive these bikes. Renting companies are expected to adhere to safety rules.
The bikes and jet skies should have comprehensive insurance coverage against accidents and civil liability from a licensed insurance company in the emirate.
The Licensing Agency will monitor the rental companies to ensure that they follow the stipulated rules and regulations.
The RTARTA
's Marine Agency will be responsible for registering the jet skis and implementation of new rules and regulations. The licence is valid for two years for individuals and one year for rental companies. Fourteen is the minimum age for driving a jet ski in the UAE. is set to be 14-year. The validity of the licence will be two years for individual use of jet skis, and one year for the rental companies.

Technical inspection: Dh100
License fee for rental companies: Dh1000
Renewal fee: Dh1000
First time offence: Dh100 to Dh500
Second time offence: Dh200 to Dh1000

Registration fee for jet ski: Dh 500
Renewal fee: Dh500
License fee for rental companies: 3000
Renewal: Dh3000
Technical testing of racing jet skis: Dh500
First time fine for an individual: Dh200 to Dh500 along with impounding the jet ski for one to two weeks.
Second time offence: Dh400 to Dh1000 along with impounding the jet ski for a period from one week to one month.
Third time offence: Dh600 to Dh1500 along with impounding the jet ski for a period of one week to one month.
