Volvo's S80 is crowned the Executive Saloon of the Year 2007Dubai - Volvo's S80 has been crowned the Executive Saloon of the Year 2007 at the first ever Car ME Awards, held last night at Dubai's Creek Golf and Yacht Club.
Volvo's S80, known for its understated luxury and satisfying driving performance, has a powerful V8 engine and a newly developed, particularly compact six-cylinder in-line engine which ensures performance and driving comfort of absolute top class. Roula Beiruty, Volvo Car's Marketing Manager commented: "This is a tremendous achievement and important development for Volvo. We are now recognized as the safest and most luxurious car in the category. This award proves the lengths that Volvo's engineers have gone to ensure that every aspect of our manufacturing procedure is thoroughly looked into. We are proud to be honored with the Executive Saloon of the Year 2007 award".
The prestigious awards were independently judged by Journalists who, combined, have more than 50 years experience in automotive editorial writing. Volvo's S80 triumphed against its main competitors, the BMW 5 series and the Chevrolet Caprice Royal. Shahzad Sheikh, Editor of Car ME commented: "The winner proved to be an even bigger surprise to the very judges that rubber-stamped its accolade. The new Volvo S80 may not have made huge waves on its arrival, but it has quietly evolved into an extremely desirable executive express that remains safe, solid and comfortable, but is also hugely satisfying and remarkably enjoyable to own, especially in V8 four-wheel drive guise, with an inoffensive image that effortlessly transcends class and culture".
Under the patronage of 14-times FIA Middle East Rally Champion, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the first-ever CAR ME awards 2007 recognized excellence in the region's automotive sector, these awards will also serve to help Middle East- based readers select the highest performance and most luxurious models currently available in the market.
