Iran Khodro To Produce

Iran Daily

Low-Consumption Vehicles

Managing director of Iran KhodroIran KhodroLoading..., a leading Iranian auto manufacturer, said that the company's policy is to manufacture vehicles with low fuel consumption.

Manouchehr Manteqi said that the recent gasoline quota of 100 liters per month for private cars can meet only 85 percent of the demand of cars produced by Iran KhodroIran KhodroLoading..., according to IRIB.

He said that seasonal increase in demand leads to rise in the prices of vehicles.

He explained that Peugeot 206-Type Two costs five million rials more than other similar cars since it is equipped with new engine which can optimize fuel consumption.

Presently 3,000 Peugeot 206-Type Two have been manufactured. Once the Industries and Mines Ministry issues permit, they are to be available in the market, he pointed out.

Manteqi noted that the company aims to produce cars with dual-fuel systems.

He said Iran KhodroIran KhodroLoading... has invested in the production of CNG cylinders, adding it will launch two production units with the capacity of 400,000 cylinders within 18 months. The official predicted that the production capacity would reach one million by the year to March 2009.

If other auto-manufacturers also invest, production will increase to three million, he asserted.

He added, "Presently out of the total 2,200 vehicles manufactured per day, 1,300 are bi-fuel cars."

The company has inaugurated the low-consumption engine production line with a production capacity of 500,000 units annually in an effort to increase production of such vehicles, he concluded.
