Jeeran 2.0: Get social with your neighbors

Press Release

23 June 2007
Arab Internet users embrace the social networking trend on Jeeran's revamped website. The leading web services portal in the Arab World orients its service offerings as a social networking site centered on its million members and the content they produce.

Amman, Jordan: With a website building tool, a blogging engine, and an online briefcase, Jeeran has been the platform for its million members to publish and store their content online.  Evolving trends on the web show that people want to connect with each other and share their content in a personalized way.  This is the main driver behind Jeeran's latest offerings.

Jeeran started pushing user generated content when it was offering free web buildings tools since the year 2000: "With the new site re-launch, we decided to put the focus on the members and their blogs, websites, and photos instead of focusing on the services we offer" says Laith Zraikat Director of Innovation & co-founder of Jeeran.  "With over 3 million unique visitors per month on our network, Jeeran members who seek exposure for the content they produce will get it from a relevant audience in the region, something they won't get from other international portals."  He added.

The new site also includes a section for your friends as well as school and university classmates. Jeeran will offer its members the chance to view photos and blogs of friends from the same school or the same interest.

In its old format, Jeeran's members were already uploading over fifteen thousand web pages, photos, and videos per day.  "The social network will make it easier for members to share content with individuals and friends, or simply keep the content for their private use" says Omar Koudsi President & co-founder of Jeeran.  "It is their choice whether to share it with their close friends or showcase it in a community that shares their values and interests.  Jeeran means neighbors, and this is what we are about, sharing and connecting with your neighbors, whether they were down the street from you or from a neighboring country.  "He further added

Member profiles are another new feature which enables members to display their content in customizable and personalized pages giving them their own space to showcase their content and creativity.  Member's content is displayed directly on each member's customized profile pages instead of Jeeran pages to emphasize the fact that the content is generated by users and to give more exposure to the member pages.  This is contrary to other social networks that display users' content as part of the host web site.

To entice users and reward them for their active content, a member ranking system was developed to rate the most active ones.  The more popular the member's content, the better rank they achieve.

With its new approach to offering its existing services, Jeeran aims to boost its position as a platform for user-generated content in the region and beyond.
