IDC: Overall IT Spending in Middle East and Africa will Cross the US $45 billion Mark by 2010

Forecasts presented at DIC "CEO Interact"

Dubai: 28 March, 2007 - The International Data Corporation (IDC) predicted that overall IT spending in the region will exceed US $45 billion by the end of 2010, up from US $30 billion recorded in 2006.

IDC announced its forecasts at the "CEO Interact" - a quarterly networking event hosted by Dubai Internet CityDubai Internet CityLoading... (DIC).

IDC, the leading global provider of market intelligence, advisory services and events for information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets, presented future trends and forecasts for the regional IT sector at the event.

Jamal Abdulsalam, the Executive Director of Dubai Internet CityDubai Internet CityLoading... said: "DIC is keen to encourage and support its business partners by hosting events that allow them to network with each other in a relaxed, social environment. Attendees will also be able to enhance their knowledge, while benefiting from insights offered by experts such as IDC on future technology developments and trends."

Jyoti Lalchandani, Vice President and Regional Managing Director of IDC Middle East and Africa, presented case studies from the region and provided insights on industry trends in the ICT sector and technology developments in the region and examined technology trends, vertical market trends (focus on key countries/sub-regions and industry sectors) and forecasts by countries/sub-region, vertical sector and technology.

He said: "Middle East and Africa represent one of the fastest growing ICT regions worldwide. This growth has been fueled by economic liberalization/privatization in key sectors, high oil prices (and subsequent impact on ICT budget allocations by the public sector), and the emergence of the home and small and medium-size business (SMB) segments."

IDC assists IT professionals, business executives, and investment communities make fact-based decisions on technology purchases and business strategies.
