Smart City official says talks with Dubai Internet City 'positive'

Talks with Dubai Internet City (DIC)Dubai Internet City (DIC)
officials on southern state of Kerala's proposed Smart City project were positive, Indian state officials told news agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS). Kerala IT Secretary PG Tenzing, Suresh Kumar, additional secretary to Achuthanandan and IT expert Joseph Mathew were the other team members that held discussions with the DICDIC officials.
Officials from DICDIC are expected to visit Kerala next month after the Kerala cabinet discusses their demands this week.
DICDIC has demanded that the land price fixed at Rs3 million (Dh240,000) per acre be reduced and the number of jobs to be provided be decreased from the stipulated 90,000.
The DICDIC
team had come here in August in order to revive the proposed Rs15 billion (Dh1.2bn) Smart City project. The memorandum of understanding for the project was inked with the previous Ommen Chandy government in October last year. Achuthanandan, then as leader of the opposition, had opposed the transfer to DICDIC of the existing Infopark campus at Kochi.
The transfer had, however, been agreed to by the Chandy government.
