Etisalat launches new service targeting children

Spacetoon characters, clips, tones, and logos at your mobile phones


Abu Dhabi, 27th June 2006: Emirates Telecommunications Corporation- etisalat- has announced a partnership with Spacetoon Channel to launch Spacetoon Mobile service, which targets a new and huge segment of customers- children between 6 and 14 years of age. etisalat is the first regional operator to launch this service, which allows users to download backgrounds, video clips, logos, tones, and merge personal pictures with characters on their mobiles.

The content available on the Spacetoon mobile service helps train children in the positive use of mobile phones and modern communication tools. It enables them to interact with the latest technology in good mix of fun and learning. 

Essa Al Haddad, Chief Marketing Officer, etisalat, said, "We are pleased to launch this service as it highlights our commitment to one of the largest segments of society. What makes this service unique is that it can be supervised by parents, allowing parents and children to share their interest in Spacetoon characters, exchange ideas, and learn together how to download content from the Internet."

"The Spacetoon mobile service comes in line with etisalat's new strategy of providing tailor-made services to targeted segments. We expect that this service will be well received by customers as Spacetoon is one the most popular TV channel for children," he added.

Spacetoon mobile service is available on both prepaid 'Wasel' and postpaid mobile connections. Customers need to subscribe " Free of charge" to  WAP service * and send an SMS with the item number that they wish to order, and send it to a short code. They will then receive a URL, which they have to open through the mobile browser. To preview the files before requesting, customers can check them on the Spacetoon website, www.spacetoonmobile.com.

For the option of merging personal pictures with characters, customers have to upload the child's picture to the website and request to merge the same with character chosen. The customer will receive the requested file immediately. The cost of downloading tones, songs, video clips, pictures and logos is AED 6, while the cost of merging personal pictures with Spacetoon ones is AED 10.

To add to the excitement, etisalat and Spacetoon will be holding a weekly draw for three months (total 12 draws) for service users. Lucky winners will win gifts such as Play Station 2, Fulla dolls, Fulla watches, free subscription to Spacetoon magazine, and military soldier badges.
