Abu Dhabi: After 32 years of being managed by a UK based healthcare company, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) has decided to affiliate Al Corniche Hospital with the US based healthcare company Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM).
Al Corniche hospital was launched in October 1976 after Her Highness Shaikha Fatima, wife of the late president of the UAE, recognised the need for a maternity hospital in the capital city. Corniche Hospital was the first to introduce Neotology in the UAE (taking care of newly borns) and was singly specialised and purpose built in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
In an earlier interview with Gulf News a senior Manager for the previous UK healthcare management company said, "We started off with 4,000 deliveries and now have up to 12,000 deliveries and have witnessed multiple births and success stories."
According to Seha statistics, the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accredited Organisation currently manages over 12,000 births and approximately 216,000 outpatients a year, with 235 beds, 174 cots, 14 delivery suites and 50 neo-natal intensive care cots.
Chairman of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (Haad)Health Authority Abu Dhabi (Haad)
and of Seha, Dr Ahmad Al Mazrouei, commented that JHM was chosen to manage Al Corniche due to their healthcare brand in the USA and expertise in patient safety and quality. Vice President of JHM, Mohan Chellappa said, "Johns Hopkins is honoured to be part of this commitment. This is our third management agreement for Seha, which will allow us to have an even greater impact in the healthcare delivery for the good of the residents of Abu Dhabi and the larger region."
