Nayla to attend YCE gala in London
Dubai The winner of the recent UAE International Young Screen Entrepreneur Award 2010, Nayla Al Khaja, will soon get a chance to showcase her portfolio to a much wider audience. Next month she will join 11 other finalists from around the world in London to compete for the international title.
As in previous years, the 2010 programme will be developed with UK partners, and will take the finalists to London and other cities to meet leaders of the UK screen sector.
The tour will comprise visits, meetings, seminars and trade events, including attending the London Film Festival. There will also be a master-class with a renowned UK screen sector entrepreneur during which the finalists will be able to question him/her about the development of business.
First woman
Nayla Al Khaja is founder and CEO of D-Seven Motion Pictures, a Dubai-based production company which makes commercial material, independent documentaries, and films. She is also, incidentally, the first woman film producer in the UAE.
The local competition to select the UAE representative was conducted at the British Council’s Dubai premises. This forms part of the British Council’s international award programme, Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE).
The interview panel consisted of Shivani Pandya, managing director Of Dubai International Film Festival, Salwa Mikdadi, head of arts and culture at Emirates Foundation, Greg Unrau, head of production and training at Abu Dhabi Film Commission, and Ali Jamal, founder of Emirates Pictures.
“Nayla demonstrated her commitment to establishing a viable and growing local production company. She has fresh ideas, isn’t afraid to take a chance.”
