Outlets in Doha under strict surveillance during Ramadan, municipal official says
Manama Doha municipality has hired 15 Qatari women to work as food inspectors as all shops and restaurants in the Qatari capital have been put under strict surveillance during Ramadan.
The women inspectors, who have graduated from Qatar University with degrees in food science, have already started their work and given good impressions, said Mohammad Lahdan Al Ka’abi, assistant director of the municipality’s Health Affairs Department.
Five-star hotels
“They have been inspecting mostly five-star hotels and top restaurants. They are doing their job exceptionally well, with their good knowledge in the field,” Al Ka’abi said, quoted by Qatari daily The Peninsula.
The women have also inspected beauty salons and massage parlours among other places.
Al Ka’abi said that his department had not recorded any major violations of health regulations during the first week of Ramadan.
“Now there is increased awareness among traders about the rules. However, we are keeping a strict vigil to check any possible violations. The public can help us in our campaign if they are also educated about the rules,” Al Ka’abi said.
