Abu Dhabi :Emiratis and expatriate professionals who have been desperately trying to fill up online application for national identity cards before deadline, no longer need to face 'web failure' due to heavy traffic.
They will soon get a free software of "pre application registration" which will enable the applicant to fill up the form on a computer even without an internet connection, and take the print out with the bar code to proceed for registration, a senior official of Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) told Gulf News on Sunday.
Apart from EIDA website, free CDs of software will be available at all EIDA centres which can be copied and redistributed, said Engineer Thamer Rashid Al Qasimi, Planning Director and Project Management Director at EIDA.

"Even if you don't have a printer you can copy it on PDF format to take print out from somewhere else," he said.
"People will be able to download it from several other websites which have offered to host the "software" and we welcome other organisations [having websites] to follow the suit," the EIDA official stressed.
The official said there is no move to freeze the bank accounts of expatriate professionals who do not register before the December 31 deadline.
"EIDA does not have that authority but Emiratis may find it difficult to do certain official transaction from January 2009, as per a law in this regard," said Al Qasimi.
"The law stipulates that national identity cards will be the only valid identification document for Emiratis for any official transactions from January 1, 2009," Al Qasimi said.

In Dubai & UAE, any time they can change the Laws. So do not worry guys.
Look at EIDA and RERA Laws. [Report Abuse | Email to a Friend | Reply to this Comment]
The project Director at EIDA says the Dead Line for registering is 31-12-2008 but the UAE LAW passed for this purpose (ID Cards) says before 2010 Expats should get the ID Card.
What does this means??The EIDA will not issue ID Cards after 31-12-2008 dead line and how will that come in line with the LAW passed for this very purpose?? [Report Abuse | Email to a Friend | Reply to this Comment]
What about expats? There is too much confusion here! Some people at EIDA say all expats need the card - others say that only those who have bachelors degrees need it - others say that only those who are engineers, architects, doctors and in similar professions need it. Then of course there's the issue of actually GETTING someone to issue the card once you get to the place!! What's going on here??!! [Report Abuse | Email to a Friend | Reply to this Comment]
I have been to the Emirates Post Office in Al Aweer twice to get Emirates ID forms withour success. There were no forms, also failed through online. The authorities should do something realistic. [Report Abuse | Email to a Friend | Reply to this Comment]
