Dubai Givori, a UAE-based company specialising in luxury accessories for mobile phones, is confident of strong sales this year too despite the economic slowdown, according to a senior official.

"Our sales have tripled last year compared to 2008 and we expect to double our sales this year as demand for our handcrafted phones are strong in UAE, Saudi Arabia and other parts of the Gulf," Nader Mikhail, regional business development manager at Givori, told Gulf News.

He said the Givori phones target a specific type of customers who enjoys purchasing luxury products and who likes to have the most up-to-date style items in their hands. Our limited-edition product is being targeted to an audience who are able to spend on such items.

"Every phone is crafted by hand and the design team draws on expertise from such varied fields as architecture, graphic design, jewellery and model-making," Nader said.

He said the phones are designed in Italy, France and Canada and then shipped to Dubai. We create only 50 limited-edition phones. Each phone has a limited edition serial number from 1-50. Once sold out, it will not be reproduced. We also make tailor-made designs for high-end customers.

The meticulously handcrafted phones cost between Dh1,700 to Dh16,000. He said we were making the designs on Nokia and BlackBerry, but this year we expect to look at other brands also.

Givori, which is a subsidiary of Axiom TelecomAxiom TelecomLoading..., is expected to launch six models this year compared to four models last year.

He said we have launched Chérie collection last month and it is produced on Nokia 8800 Carbon and BlackBerry 9700 Onyx and costs Dh14,900.

The Chérie Collection uses very rare and unique vintage pieces produced in Europe in early 1930s and 1940s.

It also uses vintage Swarovski crystals that are no longer being produces by Swarovski and they not available in the UAE and each phone comes with matching crystallised headset.

This month, the company will be launching ‘Mother of Pearl' collection for which the price is not fixed yet.
