Safadi foundation launches IT programs in the north
- Text size
TRIPOLI: The Safadi Foundation launched its tenth computer education program in north Lebanon earlier this week, as part of a global plan to eradicate IT illiteracy.
The program was started in 2000 and aims at turning information technology into a tool to fight poverty and develop the community.
It consists of a 10-week curriculum with three hours of instruction each week, organized in cooperation with IT giant MicrosoftMicrosoft
.
The foundation has established three types of training centers to guarantee the program reaches the widest possible number of beneficiaries in all regions: 16 fixed training centers, summer training centers and mobile training centers.
The fixed centers are distributed across Lebanon, including the northern regions of Tripoli, Batroun and Jbeil.
The program targets all groups of the community from housewives to students and physicians, and 60,000 students have graduated so far. The students obtain a MicrosoftMicrosoft
certificate after following courses on MicrosoftMicrosoft
Office programs and internet use. To complete the training, the Safadi Foundation also organizes a 12-week English language program. These courses aim at developing the participants’ capacities of browsing the web, and at increasing their abilities to use the computer. – Antoine Amrieh
